DVLA driving licences paper counterpart changes

As from the 8th June 2015, the DVLA has abolished the paper counterpart of driving licences, so the paper counterpart is no longer legally valid. If you have the ‘original’ paper driving licence, this remains valid. When hiring a vehicle from us, we still need to validate your driving license and any endorsements as the photo card does not currently provide the up to date information on disqualifications and endorsements. We therefore have both a legal and an insurance requirement to check the licence of every named driver that hires form us with the DVLA before we can issue any customer with a rental vehicle. What you need to do now: You can either:
  • Visit the DVLA website viewdrivingrecord.service.gov.uk then enter your DVLA licence number, National Insurance number and postcode. You can then generate a CHECK CODE, you can either call us or e-mail to us the CHECK CODE or bring it with you when you collect the vehicle for us to check online with the DVLA. PLEASE NOTE: the check code is only valid for a period of 21 days.
OR
  • Provide us with your DVLA Licence number and National Insurance number prior to collecting the rental vehicle. Let us have your consent for us to check your licence directly with the DVLA and to generate a CHECK CODE on your behalf.
PLEASE NOTE: Unfortunately we will be unable to hire a vehicle to any customer who has not had a DVLA licence check. If you need any help, please give us a call on 01386 424 237.
